Subject: NEEC project - scintillator holder for glueing to light guide  
Design
- 3D-printed holder for scintillator plate (100 x 28.9 x 1.05 mm)
- the thicknesses of the distance pieces can account for slight variations in the scintillator plate thickness, adjust as necessary
- design with and without alignment nubs at the bottom (for the detectors built in 2026 we used the design with alignment nubs)
- see picture for assembly details
- the parts of the holder are held together by M2 vinyl bolts and nuts, pressing the scintillator in-between them
- design used in 2026 to built a detector prototype for the NEEC experiment

Assembly
- the light guide was sanded on both sides using the turning tables next to Davide's workshop
- sanding up to a grit of about 800 to 1500 seems to make sense (for the glueing a rougher surface might be better?)
- optical glue provided by Michael Heil (CHECK WHICH ONE!!!)
- the glue components were mixed according to the instructions and left for a few hours to let the air bubbles escape
- a small plastic syringe was used both for mixing the components and for applying the glue to the light guide, this did not work as well as was hoped, in might be better to try disposable pipettes (at least for the mixing)
- the light guide was fixed vertically (check with spirit level!) in a vice and the holder was assembled with the scintillator plate inside (make sure that the bottom of the scintillator is flush with the base of the holder, then tighten the screws)
- a small strip of glue was applied to the top of the light guide were the base of the scintillator plate would sit
- the holder was placed on top of the light guide which spreads the glue (corrections are possible for a short time)
- the assembly was left as is over the weekend after which the glue had hardened well and the small amount of excess which had run down the along the light guide could be easily removed
