The UV-LED of Münster was connected over 
channel 8 to the Messhütte. 6V are 
supplied by the power supply (picture 2). 
The Led is located at the xuv detector 
(picture 1).

This afternoon, we found out that Sergey has also implemented a "target bump". 
Although we do not use a target, this bump is still convenient because 
we can move the ion beam such that is passes perfectly through the Cu mirror. 

The setting is -8 mm and 1.3 mrad  (if I am not mistaken) 
We tested the effect on the position of the ion beam using the 
horizontal scrapers at the target: GEEXDS1HA and GEEXDS2HA. 

With the target bump set to "zero" (0 mm and 0 mrad), 
the ion beam passed 6-8 mm to the outside. 
This way, it will e.g. not pass centrally through the slit in the Cu mirror. 


With the target bump set to -8 mm and 1.3 mrad, which is the default setting, the ion beam passed centrally. 
Therefore, we left the target bump like this.

The ESR was retuned this aftenoon since the it was unclear if we still sit the 229Th89+ line.
This lead to new ring settings (data with all the settings will be put in tomorrow).

Thhe ESR had to leave at around 1900 so we did not find the time for finetuning and adjustments of the bunching.

Yet, we performed the particle identification with:
- (1) Energy of the SIS in the maximum of 238U92+ (534MeV/u) but ring settings Brho etc. and Cooler voltage already for 229Th89+ (+1937 kV compared to optimal settings for 238U92+) (Ucool according to "green" voltage measurement in Messhütte) 
- (2) Energy of SIS +3.5 MeV/u (maximiun of 229/89+ production), ESR with identical settings as for te ID run.



In setting (1) the priary beam is still in the ring aceptance and can be used as a unique identifier, but it is cooled very slowly.

In the measurement we typicall have 500mA at injection (fast cooling) and 100 mA for the measurement (lon glifetime of beam), but for the particle ID we also used 500MA in order toaccelerate cooling.
The ion beam slowlly grows as the ions are cooled in and gets the strongest line but also fades out much faster than the other peakks during a much higher recombination (=capture of cooler electron) than the 229Th89+. (Empty K-shell comared to 1e- in K-shell => factor of 2 recombination in cooler).

Frequencies (stopped in machine 5):

242.047 MHz (238U92+, @ 500mA) in machine #5
242.277 MHz (229/89+, @ 500mA) in machine #5
minus 4.65kHz for 100mA ecurrent

Electronic for the timing of the laser puls optimized. The problem with the broad photodiode histograms is solved.
The photo of the oscilloscope picture shows in magenta the pulses from the (discriminated RF)/2, in yellow the pulses that are generated to open the Q-Switch. The latter are generated by the coincidence of the 30-Hz trigger (2 microsec long) to
allow for the Q-Switch to be fired. Within this period are usually 2 pulses from the RF and both generate a 100 ns long coincidence puls. The first one of those creates a 50 microsec long window (light blue) that is send to the Q-switch. The length
and the delay of this pulse can be changed. While the length is kept fixed, the delay can be changed in order to shift the arrival time of the laser pulse at the electron cooler to coincide with the ion bunch.
The problem of the wide photodiode histograms and the background was caused by a too large pulsewidth of the discriminated RF. The magenta pulses were about 100 ns long. Any pulse that arrives within a timespan between 99 and 0 ns before the 30-Hz
trigger of the Q-switch "allowance" will trigger a laser pulse immediately at the start of this trigger and therefore a jitter of up to 100 ns can occur. Therefore it is important that the CFD pulses are as short as possible, we set them to 20 ns
and the width of the photodiode histogram was just 3 bins wide (at the foot maybe 5 bins).

I (Rodolfo) just added the picture with the cabling configuration. The colors of cables match together with the colors show in the oscilloscope.

For the laser trigger we need to generate a few ns NIM-puls from the HF reference signal. Therefore we (Wilfried, Konstantin and me) have changed the constant fraction descriminator (CFD) to generate this kind of pulse.

- We are using now the module N843 from CAEN, see picture below. With this we could now produce ~20 ns long pulse.
- This signal is also used as STOP trigger for the VUPROMs

Occasionally, we noticed a spike in the PMT signal. No ions in the ring and at PMT Cu was not even supplied with HV. Has to be some electronic pickup

Today we finalized the PMT over wavelength histogram in:

Currently the histogram shows the PMT middle signal on the y axis.

Remark: Tomorrow we create this kind of histogram for all PMTs.
