15:45 Right now, we are waiting for stable conditions again. There are problems with both the ion source and the accumulation in SIS.

16:20 SIS and source look better now, but now ESR makes trouble. The stacking looks off and after deceleration and cooling barely any Th-ions are stored. The positions of the scrapers seem to be wrong. Carsten is trying to fix it.

AT 1700 Bernd came in since we couldn't properly accumulate. Bernd adjusted the deceleration HF and slightly changed the extraction kicker from 1.9mrad to 1.7 mrad. High intensity of 229/89.

At 19:35 again problems with transmission SIS -> ESR. Put the Kciker (GTE3Mu1/HIKICK) back to 1.9 mrad (orignal value).
27   Wed Jun 18 20:24:01 2025 Carsten, Shahab, Ragandeep, Danyal et al. (the dayshift) and ESR crewAccelerator229Th89+ identification
We believe to have identified the 237U92+ and the 229Th89+ peaks.

Using the Schottky resonator at about 244 MHz and taking the 123rd harmonic:
The Schottky peak of 237U92+ should be at 242.7975 MHz and the one of 229Th89+ at 242.8494 MHz.
The peaks should be ~52 kHz apart.

We have used:
gamma_t	= 2.355
alpha_p = 0.18

Final voltages and thresholds for the PMTs and particle detectors before the first scan:

particle detector 1.35 100 -
PMT north 2.7 10 16
PMT mid 2.65 10 16
PMT south 2.7 10 16

All other mesytec thresholds remain unchanged and can be found in entry 7.

Important note: Ch0 of the PMT power supply broke, so we moved PMT north to CH3.
Current setup:
CH1: PMT mid
CH2: PMT south
CH3: PMT north
41   Sat Jun 21 18:00:49 2025 Carsten, Peter, Danyal, Kristian, Marek DetectorsPMT signals
Carsten and Kristian changed (18:00) the thresholds of PMT north and PMT middle in the ESR cave.
See picture below. The effect is negligible.

Carsten will now (18:05) change the channel of the pre-amp of PMT north.
40   Sat Jun 21 17:00:10 2025 Carsten, Peter, Danyal, Kristian, MarekDetectorsPMT north exchanged
We noted that the dark countrate of PMT north is about 20x higher than that of PMT middle.

We went into the ESR cave to look for stray light.
We decided to put a black cloth over all the PMTs.
Also we made the tubes of the N2 airflow to the PMTs black (tape around).
This did not make a significant change.

We exchanged PMT north (same type 9423B) to see if that made a difference.
It did not really change either.

PMT north = 2650 V
PMT middle = 2700 V

The first picture below shows the dark rates for these two voltages.

At about 17:00 we changed the voltage of PMT north to 2700 V.
This did not change anything.

Carsten swapped the cables of PMT north and PMt middle (inside ESR, before the amps) at 17:14.
The second picture below shows the result of that.
Now black and red are exchanged.

Carsten swapped the cables back again (17:20).
Carsten and Kristian will look at the PMT signals in the ESR cave.

After the scan at 22:04 teh FCU new was new calibrated. For this MEdusa was stopped and reopened in the laser lab. This stops the Labview server, and as a consequence the the connection to the MBS was lsot. Then, MBS needs to be restarted and the online data is cleared. Such an intervention should avoided as good as possible.
A pratical solution for beamtimes with such long data taking is still pending.
When trying to restart MBS MBS completlz hung up also resl etc did not work. Crate powered down and restarted.

7   Wed Jun 11 16:44:39 2025 Carsten, JanDetectorsDetector voltages and thresholds for DAQ2 (Mesycontrol)
Voltages (2650v) for the small band 9423 is ok. Signals are nicely separated from background, thresholds can be easily set.
For the broadband 9422 the voltage is by far too low. Signals and BG are barely separated.
Increased voltage from 1500V to 1750V (according to datasheet Vmax = 2500V, 1500 V is the min voltage for gain 1e6...).
Now signals are better separated - threshold with mesycontrol can be set in such a way that the dark count rate is 300 - 400 Hz (was > 1kHz).
For detector south, the threshold in DAQ1 has to be readjusted.

Below are the settings for Mesytec CFD. Internally the 2nC chips (x 20 ??? ) are used for both groups. Please note that thre are also 20nC chips in "parking position" (lower amplfication).
The Mesytec PMT CFD Version uses "nC" chips while the other Mesytec Shapers "gain / amplification", i.e. chips labeled with 20 are x20 and have a large amplification while the "nC" chips give the full scale range , aka the 20nC is tghe small amplification.

Note as well: Externally, the channel numbering starts with "1" while the Mesycontrol starts with "0".

The sum of all Mesytec signals defines the gate for the ADC.
Group 4-7 are the x100 signals (similar to Vuprom TDC). These signals go to the 25ps TDC and are used for timing, and to the ADC.
Group 0-3 is x10; thresholds are artificially set slightly too high, signals are used in the ADC only. Since these are the same signals as in the x100 group, their (correct) gate signals can be used in the ADC. The x10 capture also the very high signals.

ch 0(1): PMT South x10 (A).
ch 1(2): PMT Mid x10 (B).
ch 2(3): PMT North x10 (C).

ch 4(5): PMT South x100 (B).
ch 5(6): PMT Mid x100 (D).
ch 6(7): PMT North x100 (F).

Lgx0155 is shut-down and is replaced by lxg3113.

For the experiment (DAQ2) still user stoe_exp can be used (Credits - see monitor).
MBS runs on r4l-68 with user atplaser: (/esr/usr/atplaser/) mbsrun/E0052/DAQ2

The data is stored on the ATP NAS (atprfio.gsi.de). (instead of local disk).

In the home directory there is link to access the data (u/stoe_exp/nas/229Th2025 ; ~/nas/229Th2025)
( sshfs -o directport=7777 atprfio.gsi.de:/mnt/raw.data /u/stoe_exp/nas )

For mbs the correct location on atprfio.gsi.de need to be used (cf. @openfile).i.e.
con rfio atprfio -DISK
and
open file /mnt/raw.data/229Th2025/Th25DAQ2_.lmd .
This is the mountpoint in mbs.
The commands @connectdisk and @openfile are adjusted accordingly.

He was even able to get a quite good intensity by leaving one of the coils switched off (although with a slight shift of frequencies visible in Schottky spectrum) but then the ESR electron cooler has failed probably due to problems with the cooling water. So, the decision was taken to stop the measurement at this point. The laser was switched off.
