Rodolfo | Accelerator | High voltage dividers for E-Cooler | Two dividers, from PTB-Braunschweig, have been deliver today. We will use them to monitor the electron-cooler voltage in situ.
- PT120 (up to -120 kV) with scaling factor: 12003.341, and
- PT200.1 (up to -200 kV) with a scaling factor: 19859,033.
Tomorrow (Friday 18.3.) we will install them in the Faraday cage at ESR.
PT120 will be use for the "Channeling experiment" (E137 Bräuning-Demian) and the PT200.1 for the "Thorium experiment" (E142 Brandau). |

Rodolfo | Accelerator | Vacuum leak, ODR | After the beaking out process we got a vacuum leak in one of the MgF2 windows (Referenz: PMT South) of the optical detection region (ODR) Stand 17.03.2022. In order to avoid breaking the vacuum again and a second beaking out process we had to spread vacuum seal on the window.
The window shows now no leaks, Stand 18.03.2022. We are allowed to install a detector on this viewport, as soon as the detector does not have contact with the window (we got the consent of our vacuum expert). Bild: K. König. |

For comparison I have also upload a photo taken on 07.02.2022 where the pressure was 4.62E-10. We have contacted the vacuum expert and asked for his opinion. Waiting for the reply ...

Rodolfo | Accelerator | Issue? Scrapers at E-Cooler | Carsten* forwarded me an E-Mail from Markus yesterday. "Betreff: Scraper im ESR Elektronenkühler"
- Markus has tried to get moving the scrapers at E-Cooler last week. But he got some issues.
- The expert (Herr Robert Boywitt, Abteilung BEA) has been contacted and he is working on this issue.
- The scrapers move in one follows the instructions (please attached screenshot).
- However it was also noticed that the actuators for the scrapers show now tolerance of "2 mm". This can affect the accuracy and the reproducibility of the ion- and laser-beam positions, e.g the overlap.

Carsten | Accelerator | ESR setup with primary beam and 1cm Be plate + Schottky data on NTCAP | MArkus and Bernd have setup the ESR with the thick stripper foil and put the ion beam (238U92+) on the central orbit.
SIS Energy is 536 MeV/u
ESR cooler is 207.1keV (according to the multimeter in the HKR)
Bunching frequency is 3.89329 MHz
Scrapers in event mode are working.
We are now taking a Schotty spectrum with the NTCAP DAQ
(IQ_2022-04-02-15-52-58 )-The lines are not yet positioned on the Schottky resonance.

- Carsten contacted Markus concerning this issue.

Carsten | Accelerator | 229Th89+ identification after re-tuning of the ESR | The ESR was retuned this aftenoon since the it was unclear if we still sit the 229Th89+ line.
This lead to new ring settings (data with all the settings will be put in tomorrow).
Thhe ESR had to leave at around 1900 so we did not find the time for finetuning and adjustments of the bunching.
Yet, we performed the particle identification with:
- (1) Energy of the SIS in the maximum of 238U92+ (534MeV/u) but ring settings Brho etc. and Cooler voltage already for 229Th89+ (+1937 kV compared to optimal settings for 238U92+) (Ucool according to "green" voltage measurement in Messhütte)
- (2) Energy of SIS +3.5 MeV/u (maximiun of 229/89+ production), ESR with identical settings as for te ID run.
In setting (1) the priary beam is still in the ring aceptance and can be used as a unique identifier, but it is cooled very slowly.
In the measurement we typicall have 500mA at injection (fast cooling) and 100 mA for the measurement (lon glifetime of beam), but for the particle ID we also used 500MA in order toaccelerate cooling.
The ion beam slowlly grows as the ions are cooled in and gets the strongest line but also fades out much faster than the other peakks during a much higher recombination (=capture of cooler electron) than the 229Th89+. (Empty K-shell comared to 1e- in K-shell => factor of 2 recombination in cooler).
Frequencies (stopped in machine 5):
242.047 MHz (238U92+, @ 500mA) in machine #5
242.277 MHz (229/89+, @ 500mA) in machine #5
minus 4.65kHz for 100mA ecurrent
Voltage settings for cooler:
Sc3 (500mA, 209794V)

Danyal & Carsten | Accelerator | target bump | This afternoon, we found out that Sergey has also implemented a "target bump".
Although we do not use a target, this bump is still convenient because
we can move the ion beam such that is passes perfectly through the Cu mirror.
The setting is -8 mm and 1.3 mrad (if I am not mistaken)
We tested the effect on the position of the ion beam using the
horizontal scrapers at the target: GEEXDS1HA and GEEXDS2HA.
With the target bump set to "zero" (0 mm and 0 mrad),
the ion beam passed 6-8 mm to the outside.
This way, it will e.g. not pass centrally through the slit in the Cu mirror.
With the target bump set to -8 mm and 1.3 mrad, which is the default setting, the ion beam passed centrally.
Therefore, we left the target bump like this. |
