  27   Mon Mar 21 21:48:46 2022 JanDAQMesyTec Shaper Control
The MesyTec Shaper & Constant Fraction (MSCF) is used to process the PMT/det signals for the ADC in the second DAQ.
It can be setup on its front panel, but single channel setup is very tedious.
Remote control of the settings is possible using an epics server and client.

All of the following is done with the "litv-exp" user:

server: atpnuc001 (in the screen session "E142")
client: lxg1275

The server should run undisturbed, but in case of a power failure, you can start the server like this:
> ssh litv-exp@atpnuc001
> cd e142
> ./E142_start_ioc.sh

To check server:
> ssh litv-exp@atpnuc001
> screen -x (CTRL-a CTRL-d to leave screen)

To connect the client gui for remote control, do:
> ssh litv-exp@lxg1275
> E142_epics
The panel is more or less self-explaining.
One thing has to be noted: the Monitor Channel selection is shifted by -1.
I.e., [ch 1] is button [0], etc.

The MSCF settings can be stored and loaded to/from file by using a bash-script.
The settings will be saved/loaded from:
/u/litv-exp/e142/mscf_settings/
files names are "setting_e142.<linux_timestamp>"

The scripts are also in /u/litv-exp/e142/mscf_settings/
use
./mscf_save.sh for saving the current settings to a new file
use
./mscf_load_last.sh to load the last settings file (by timestamp in the filename)
use
./mscf_load_file.sh <filename> to load the settings of a specific file

We had no beam since about 1000. Also, we are still trying to find out why we have such a low intensity in the expereimnt.
Presently, there is a planned maintenance in the UNILAC, beam is expected back in 25-30 mins.
The profile grid TE3 in the transfer beamline in front of the target will be used to check if the extracted SIS beam has changed compared to before the crash of the SIS.
All devices in the ESR seem to work normally including ramping of cooler current/voltage, dipole correction windings and sextupoles (all checked).
As we observed that coolng performace after injection is much worse Markus (Steck) suggested that we could try a longer manual cooling in machine 3 (pleae no cahnges in timimng) to see whether the SIS energy has changed (similar to about 1 week ago).
Cooler elctron current iis put back to 450ma (inejection / 40mA measurement).

  191   Sun Apr 10 03:56:56 2022 V. HannenDetectorsLow rate in PMT South
PMT south shows a much lower count rate than observed in elog entry 170.

Yesterday the voltage on this PMT was increased to 2400 V and the threshold setting of the CAEN CFD to 90 units, (from 70 units before) however the low readout rate was already apparent both for the analog and the discriminated signal then.

Update Sun Apr 10, 21:45: on advice from D. Winters, increased the PMT voltage to 2500 V (max. the HV supply can do, the PMT could handle up to 3000 V)

226   Thu Apr 14 08:41:42 2022 CarstenAcceleratorLow intensity at the experiment after series of failures during the night
After the recovery from the failures during the night, we see much lower intensity at the experiment (measured with the particle detector count rate).
Instead of 8000-10000 cts we see only 3000-4000cts at comparable SIS intensities.
Also ESR cooler seems to be slightly unstable (wiggling lines) during injection. However, it is visually evident from the Schottky that the injected intensity already is much lower than yesterday evening.

All devices in ESR are (seem to run ) runnng properly, and also slit position (PN devices) are ok.

I am going to open the slits iin the SIS ESR transfer beamline. It would be useful to check for the SIS-ESR timing.

  10   Fri Nov 19 15:50:44 2021 RodolfoAcceleratorLaser windows at E-Cooler side
New laser viewports have been installed at the E-Cooler side of the ESR.

  148   Fri Apr 8 02:14:05 2022 WilfriedLaserLaser timings adjusted
Since we use the middle window as a reference for the laser pulse timing, the fact that the window is 2.25 m behind the target has to be taken into account. From here the ions have 10 ns less time of flight to the middle of the electron cooler than they need for half a revolution. The signals were still symmetrically aligned around the reference bunch as it was done yesterday. Therefore, the delay of the laser pulse was reduced by 10-ns on the oscilloscope, which led both photodiode histograms move 3 bins further to the right (towards larger times till common stop, since the pulse arrives earlier).

Since the RF frequency is turned down from ~ 1 MHz to ~ 400 kHz during injection/preparation, the laser does not fire reliably and the beam stabilization does not work very well during this period. This was solved by increasing the window in which the Q-Switch signal is accepted from 2 microseconds to 5 microsececonds. The laser is now firing regularly and with high power also during the preparation time and the beam position stabilization works very well.
  118   Thu Apr 7 00:15:11 2022 PatrickLaserLaser timing adjusted
We have adjusted the laser timing using PMT-middle. Bunching freq. is 3.90362 MHz.

PD NO: 7.79
PD SO: 43.37
mean: 25.08

PMT middle: 25.02

Delta = 0.6 bins * 3.3 ns = 0.2 ns

New injection:
PMT middle: 25.48 / 101.91
ParDet south: 74.31 / 151.31

ParDet south - PMT middle (furthest / closest distance) = 161.1 ns / 91.1 ns
